Commercial, Industrial and Residential Accounts

This section details the KTI protocols which are to be followed when any KTI installer, supervisor or employee is in the field. This applies to commercial, industrial or residential accounts.

  • All KTI installers, supervisor or employee must complete the KTI assessment survey daily prior to commencement of any work.
  • No KTI installer, supervisor or employee will be permitted to perform work on any account without successfully passing the KTI assessment survey test for that day.
  • Proper PPE as stipulated in the assessment survey must be present. KTI will provide all PPE materials, including:
    • Non medical grade mask
    • Gloves
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Sanitation wipes
  • All employees using PPE will be trained on the safe use, care and limitations of PPE, including putting on and taking off PPE as well as proper disposal
  • Any installer that requires access to any KTI facility must follow the KTI Project Office Protocol
    • Access will be required when:
      • New product is needed
      • Returning Scrap
      • Procuring additional PPE, consumables and other equipment as needed
      • Specialized tooling requirements

Pre-Work Process

At the Start of Each work Day:

On-Site Assessment

  • KTI installer will attempt to call the number for the property prior to approaching
  • If the installer can’t make contact on the phone, the installer must prepare to knock on the door
  • The installer will sanitize hands using KTI supplied hand sanitizer
  • The installer will wear a face mask
  • The installer will wear gloves
  • The installer will approach the property and knock on the door and step 2-metres back from the door after knocking.
  • KTI installer will conduct a KTI assessment survey to determine if the homeowner is showing signs of COVID-19. (Survey in development)
  • Homeowner Survey can result in 3 scenarios:
    • Homeowner fails/refuses to answer
        • Installer logs a special COVID-19 test failure TASK
    • Homeowner refuses entry
        • Installer logs a special COVID-19 test failure TASK
    • Homeowner passes
        • Grants permission to the installer to proceed
        • Installation begins

Installation Prep:

Installation preparations only begin after the on-site KTI assessment survey produces a passing score

  • The installer will be wearing a face mask
  • The installer will be wearing gloves
  • The Installer will enter the home and proceed to the existing water meter.
  • The installer will take care to not physically touch any surface while travelling to the meter location
  • The installer will assess what work is required and what tools will be needed for the job
  • The installer, at a safe distance, will explain the required work.
  • All communications with the homeowner will be done at a minimum 2-metre distance
  • If the homeowner grants permission to proceed, the installer will begin work
  • The installer will clean the old meter, BCV and any plumbing that will be touched with disinfecting wipes prior to beginning work. This will ensure that no contamination enters the installer vehicle or KTI facility
  • The installer will complete the installation.
  • The installer will place the old equipment, which has been cleaned, into their vehicle.
  • The installer will remove their gloves once back in the vehicle
  • The installer will sanitize hands using provided hand sanitizer
  • The installer will proceed to the next site

A KTI installer, supervisor, or employee encounters a suspected individual or homeowner with COVID-19 like symptoms, KTI will enact the KTI containment protocol 2

KTI installers, supervisors, or employees have the right to refuse any work, as outlined in existing legislature. Any refusal to complete work due to safety concerns will be logged as a TASK, with the most applicable TASK category.

Assessment Survey

The following 4 questions below are to be asked to an adult present prior to entering any account for the purpose of performing KTI related work. If the recipient answers “YES” to any question, work cannot proceed, and the incident is to be logged as a task

  1. Have you traveled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
  2. Are you experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 (e.g., shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, or fever)?
  3. Have you been in close contact with a person with acute respiratory illness who has been outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
  4. Have you been in close contact with a person showing symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19?
